Emerging Evidence Linking the Liver to the Cardiovascular System: Liver-derived Secretory Factors

چکیده

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Recently, accumulating evidence has revealed hepatic mediators, termed as liver-derived secretory factors (LDSFs), play an important role in regulating CVDs such atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease, thrombosis, myocardial infarction, heart failure, metabolic cardiomyopathy, arterial hypertension, pulmonary hypertension. LDSFs presented here consisted microbial metabolite, extracellular vesicles, proteins, microRNA, they are primarily or exclusively synthesized released by liver, have been shown to exert pleiotropic actions on cardiovascular system. mainly target vascular endothelial cell, smooth muscle cells, cardiomyocytes, fibroblasts, macrophages platelets, further modulate nitric oxide synthase/nitric oxide, function, energy metabolism, inflammation, oxidative stress, dystrophic calcification. Although some known be detrimental/beneficial, controversial findings were also reported for many. Therefore, more studies required explore causal relationships between uncover exact mechanisms, which is expected extend our understanding crosstalk liver system identify potential therapeutic targets. Furthermore, case patients with awareness should given implications these abnormalities These underline importance early recognition intervention practice care, a multidisciplinary approach combining hepatologists cardiologists would preferable patients.

Linking Inflammation to the Brain-Liver Axis

The upregulation of plasma inflammatory biomarkers in individuals with metabolic syndrome implies that activation of the innate immune response contributes to the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes (1). Today, a large array of studies has demonstrated that activation of inflammatory pathways underlies obesity-associated insulin resistance at the liver and fat (2–4). However, little is known regard...

A liver-derived secretory protein, selenoprotein P, causes insulin resistance.

The liver may regulate glucose homeostasis by modulating the sensitivity/resistance of peripheral tissues to insulin, by way of the production of secretory proteins, termed hepatokines. Here, we demonstrate that selenoprotein P (SeP), a liver-derived secretory protein, causes insulin resistance. Using serial analysis of gene expression (SAGE) and DNA chip methods, we found that hepatic SeP mRNA...

Cardiovascular Risk Factors and Liver Transplantation

In the last decades, the survival of liver transplanted patients and grafts have had a great improvement due to many factors. Careful preoperative evaluation in transplant recipients, experience and a multidisciplinary approach have, without any doubt, a major role in the selection of candidates and in the diagnosis and treatment of preoperative complications. Moreover, with the introduction of...

Phyllanthus Emblica Extract Protects the Rat Liver Cells Against the Toxicity of Monosodium Glutamate: Experimental Evidence

Background: Monosodium glutamate (MSG), used widely in the food industry, is a threat to the public health. We investigated whether the MSG administration depletes non-enzymatic antioxidants, i.e., vitamins C and E in the liver of Wistar albino rats. We also examined the restorative effect of the ethanolic extract of Phyllanthus emblica (P. emblica). Methods: Wistar albino rats (n=42) were ada...

Non-alcoholic fatty liver and cardiovascular disease: an emerging relationship.

N on-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a clinicopathological condition characterised by a wide spectrum of histological abnormalities and clinical outcomes. The underlying histological abnormality is hepatic steatosis, characterised by fat accumulation, which may progress to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), characterised in turn by steatosis, periportal inflammation, and ballooning ...
